FAKE IT TIL YOU MAKE IT

Fake it til you make it. How to have more confidence & be successful

I‘m not naturally a confident person, in fact I can be my own worse enemy sometimes. I talk myself out of so many things. I put barriers up and obstacles in my way, but a lot of people would probably say the opposite about me. I can walk into a room and talk to anyone, I’m never the one stood on my own. But, it has taken so much to actually walk into that room.

Internally my confidence & self esteem can be in chaos but I force myself to FEEL more confident because otherwise I’d be bloody miserable.

It’s hard to walk into that room full of people you don’t know, but what would be harder for me is standing there alone with no one to talk to. Standing in the corner would drag me further into myself which would be harder to break free from. As soon as you make the first move it brings you out of yourself and moves you forward, and you feel more confident talking to others & getting involved.

Basically what I’m saying is FAKE IT TIL YOU MAKE IT

Feeling the fear is completely natural but it’s pushing past that feeling to achieve what you want, to get where you want. Just believe in yourself. Even if you don’t, just pretend that you do and, at some point you will.

Fake it til you make it. How to have more confidence & be successful

The main thing for me is to stop doubting yourself, work hard & make it happen.

I never imagined I’d be running my own business but now I’ve got two! I’ve been running my cake business Handmade Queen since I took voluntary redundancy when pregnant with Archie over four years ago. My sister now manages this business for me since my blogging took off, she’s got such a natural talent for cakes too.

She wasn’t sure she was cut out for running a business as she’d never done it before but 12 months down the line and she’s made it a massive success, she’s a proper #MumBoss too.

After I’d been blogging a few months I knew I really wanted to make blogging my career but in order to do that I had to MAKE it my career. I had to believe I could do it, and project that to clients and brands in order for them to work with me.

That meant no longer being the ‘little blogger’, it meant taking a professional approach with my blog design, with approaching brands, with my finances and rates. You can catch up on my post ‘how to make more money though sponsored posts‘ which gives more info on how I make money.

Even if it’s the first time you are contacting a brand or company as a blogger they don’t have to know that. Don’t pretend you’re bigger than you are with a larger readership but give the professional approach. In my mind I had to tell myself if you want to be a professional blogger then act like a professional blogger

I wanted to start a YouTube channel. After about a year of umming & aahhing about it I filmed my first buggy review. It then took me another 6 months to actually edit & upload it because of my confidence. That’s a year and a half of building up the confidence to do something, how ridiculous is that? And once I’d done it? I couldn’t wait to start on a another, all that fuss for nothing!

I was terrified when filming, so so nervous but other people have said they can’t tell. I look confident in what I’m saying and how I’m acting, and now I feel confident filming product reviews. I’m more than happy to get in front of the camera to talk about any products.

Next I want to start properly vlogging and I’m doing the same to myself again. Undermining myself, finding excuses why I can’t. So again, I’m going to force myself to do it. If I want it I have to work for it and remind myself to fake it til I make it.

I’ve done so many things I never thought I would do. My life has gone in a completely different direction than I ever thought and that’s all down to having the confidence to make a decision and going for the goal.

It’s not about being fake or pretending to be something you’re not. It’s about pushing your boundaries and trying to have belief in yourself until it happens.

Even if you’re not fully confident don’t put yourself down, you can do this.

You can make yourself more confident, I know I’ve done it.

If you want to read up more on becoming a #MumBoss then I’ve got lot’s of posts about being self employed & working from home.

I so agree with that “Fake it till you make it” motto. It worked for me when I was first starting out early in my career. But now as a mum and a blogger, it’s been my own mantra again. x

Great post! I’m sort of in a place similar to where you were. I’m trying to make my blog more professional and make it work for me as a job! It’s scary to put yourself out there though and contacting brands is terrifying.

It really is & I still feel nervous but you’ve got to do it. Once you act like a pro blogger you get treated like one. If you want it to be your business, treat it like a business 🙂 x

The thing is once you start acting more confident you start to feel more confident. It just comes more naturally to some, some of us have to work at it but we get there 🙂

Being confident was a real struggle for me and is still is. But fake it till you make it seems like a good way without being noticed what you feel inside. I’ve thought about blogging as a career since I departed from my old job and looking for a new one. Blogging seems to be standing out as my career and of course, a lot of hard work build into it. However, my blog is still small, do you think I should go for it?

Your blog might feel small to you but other people don’t know how many views you get. If you present it as a professional blog then it will become one. If you think small you’ll never grow, I think you should totally go for it. Your blog has always looked really sleek & professional to me x

    Awesome advice!
Sometimes it’s good to push yourself and go get what you want isn’t it?
Once you pluck up the courage, it does’t seem so hard after all 🙂 x

I really loved reading your post, I’m a bit shy and anxious at first when it comes to anything so I definetly have to fake it till I make it. It’s amazing that you have ran your own cake business & want to make your blog your career, it’s so inspirational.
