AN 11 YEAR AGE GAP, ARE WE MAD TO BECOME PARENTS AGAIN?

I’m mum to two bloody gorgeous boys, a teenager & a toddler. One is 13 and the other is almost 19 months so a big age gap there!

I was blessed with my first beautiful baby boy when I was only 19, even though I was young it was the best thing that could have happened to me. He really was the making of me, he gave a focus, a drive, a passion.

The only issue was his father (note father not Dad), he was completely useless. A gambler & heavy drinker that spent his wage within hours in the bookies or pub, we barely saw him & when we did he was drunk & violent. I learnt early on that it would be much better to be a single mum than to live life like that.

I knew that in order to support my son & better our lives I needed a good education & a career. So fast forward a few years & I met the man of my dreams, graduated with a First Class Honours Degree & found my dream job. By this time my Little Man was almost six and although we wanted children together it just wasn’t the right time.

Fast forward a few more years & we had finally saved enough to get married, it was amazing. I loved every second of being married to my best friend but something was missing… another baby.

Our families said we were crazy to start all over again after 12 years but to us it made perfect sense & was the perfect age gap. The Teenager has his own independence & can do his own thing without being tied to me & a baby, which would’ve happened if there was 7 or 8 years age gap. He absolutely dotes on his baby brother & loves spending time with him, but he also loves being able to just go out with his friends & not have to do ‘baby things’ such as coming to soft play with us etc.

So if you’re worried about age difference between potential siblings, I say ‘don’t mind the gap’, if that’s what you want then go for it!  🙂

Thanks! Yes mine is great too, helping out or running quick errands for me. We made the right decision for us to leave the longer gap
